The Green Bay Packers did not appear to be suffering from any sort of Super Bowl hangover whatsoever, operating on all offensive cylinders in their 42-34 victory over New Orleans. Aaron Rodgers played a mistake free game completing 27 of 35 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns, with all three scores coming in the first quarter. All the Packers got involved in the pass attack, with Rodgers completing passes to nine different receivers. Greg Jennings was unsurprisingly his favorite target, catching seven balls for 89 yards and a touchdown. The performance of the night was that of rookie Randall Cobb, who had a 108 yard kickoff return touchdown along with hauling in a 32 yard score from Rodgers. Green Bay’s running game did its part to keep New Orleans off balance as well, with the Packers’ backs combining for 27 rushes for 103 yards and two scores. Defensively Green Bay did not deliver a dominant performance, allowing the Saints to climb back into the game by putting up 477 total yards and 34 points. Third down stops for hard to come by for the Packers on opening night, as New Orleans converted on 9 of their 14 third downs.
